Fashion Editorial // DENIM DAYS

As 2019 came to an end, I sat down and wrote a list of goals I wanted to achieve for 2020. At the top of that list was having my images published in a magazine. Posting on Instagram is great and all, but truthfully, my vision extends beyond social media. Getting my work published has always been something I wanted to do but I just didn’t fully understand how to go about it. Now I know as a photographer I can’t possibly do everything on set but in order for me to really elevate my work to the level I envisioned, I realized that a few key components were missing.

First and foremost a dedicated hair and wardrobe stylist. I started to branch out and utilize some of my new found connections. I met the lovely Christine one day at work and found out she does hair and make-up. Collaborating on a future shoot came up in our discussion and right away she was down.

Now when it came to the wardrobe styling, anyone who knows me, will tell you, I am NOT the type of person to just sit around and wait on people so… I decided it was time for me to try a “ting” and style my shoot. In the past I have some-what styled some of my shoots but it certainly was not 5 complete looks from head to toe.

For a while I had an idea to do a denim themed fashion editorial shoot. I was able to book the talented Hannah from The Numa Network and got to work. I honestly didn’t know what to expect but I am so glad that I stepped out and gave styling a shot.

For one, I realized how much I absolutely LOVE it! I enjoy everything about the process from coming up with a theme, shopping for clothes and accessories, dressing the model and ultimately seeing my vision come to life.

Secondly, as much as I am open to collaborating with other wardrobe stylists I now know that I am not stuck if I am unable to secure a stylist for a shoot, not to mention my clothing and accessory wardrobe has and continues to grow.

And lastly, it feels so amazing to see the first shoot I EVER styled was published in the March 2020 edition of Picton Magazine. Front cover, back cover and inside spread!!

With all that being said, I just want to take a moment and encourage some one, whether you are a Photographer or a Creative Artist of any genre, believe in yourself! Where one door closes be sure to know that others will open. And know that not everyone will believe in you, want to collaborate with you or see your vision as clearly as you do and that’s okay. Not everyone will think you are amazing or love what you do. Refuse to let what a handful of people believe about your work define your success. Use those experiences to work hard, help you stay focused and ultimately find the right team of people you can make magic with. I’m honestly so excited for what the rest of this year is going to bring!
