Early in my career, I thought wedding photography was my calling—only to discover in school how many genres I wanted to explore. Though I no longer book real weddings, I jumped at the opportunity to join a styled wedding content day at Ruby Manor. Moving through rooms designed to evoke a dreamy wedding day, I photographed a number of models —but some of my favourite frames came from the room with a lush floral mantle that made the perfect backdrop for our “bride.”
Themed content days—whether focused on weddings, fashion, or any other niche—offer photographers a creative playground to experiment, collaborate, and craft standout portfolio pieces.
Here are 10 tips to help you maximize your next content-day shoot:
1. Curate Your Ideal Portfolio
Use the shoot’s theme—like a bridal setup—to create polished images that speak directly to the clients or genres you want to attract.
2. Focus on Technique, Not Logistics
With wardrobe, styling, and venue prearranged, you can concentrate on refining your lighting setups, compositions, and editing without venue or client constraints.
